I like blogdex, but it troubles me because whenever I find something I like there and blog it, I know I’m just piling on the old internet bandwagon. Self-fulfilling memes. Oh well. I absolve myself.

I’ve just been working on the MATLAB Programming Contest at work. The challenge this time around was to write a program that could play Mastermind. We did some fun visualization of how the contest progressed.

The latest Nobel prize in physics honors Eric A. Cornell, Wolfgang Ketterle, and Carl E. Wieman for work with Bose-Einstein condensation in dilute gases of alkali atoms. What’s that? You don’t really know what Bose-Einstein condensation is? Take a look at the Bose-Einstein condensation homepage at the University of Colorado at Boulder. They have a really nifty site that explains how it works. The animations are high quality and work well to augment the explanation. They also use a cartoonish dialogue explanatory approach that, while it sounds lame to describe it, is I think very successful. The overall physics page for the university looks like it’s loaded with a bunch of other goodies I’ll have to check out later.
