Incredible but true. An entire game of chess written to fit within 5k of memory. Try it… it’s a pretty creditable player, at least for me. It’s part of the 5k challenge.

R.W.B. Lewis has just written a highly praised book about Dante called Dante : A Penguin Life. Does anybody else find this funny? It is intriguing, I admit: just how long was Dante a penguin, anyway? Did he do all his writing in were-penguin form? Did anybody get any pictures? Because I don’t think his parents are going to believe this.

Wired magazine’s latest issue has an entertaining article about Dave Winer and his Scripting News. It has some good discussion of how annoying geeks really can change the world.
Earth at night
Here’s a beautiful shot of the Earth at night from NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day site. It’s big; if you look closely you can tell a lot of stories with it. For instance, South Korea looks like an island. There’s a line of blackness that starts right at the border with North Korea.
